| Its Time For You To Use Our New Coolant Management Lab |
| Find out more about this service | The coolant management lab is free to our customers using cutting and grinding fluids purchased from Erie Industrial but we will extend this service to our other customers for a small fee. It should be noted that in the later case we may have limited technical information on the other product which would particularly limit the value of the concentration by Refractive Index. |
| The lab usually does five main tests | |
| Test 1 | pH (measure acidity) Controlling pH helps stop bacteria from getting out of control |
| Test 2 | Conductivity (amount of dissolved solids) |
| Test 3 | Tramp Oil (amount of oil contamination from way-lubes etc., a prime bacterial food) |
| Test 4 | Concentration of the cutting fluid in water. This analysis is done by Refractive Index. |
| Test 5 | Bacterial Analysis the main reason your fluid smells bad. |
| Signs You Need To Monitor Your Fluids More Carefully | |
| Rust | When fluids get lean or to much water corrosion starts to form on the machine, the chips and the parts |
| Gummy Residue | If the fluid gets to rich and the tramp oils get too heavy the machine becomes covered in a sticky residue |
| Stinky Sumps | If concentration gets to low bacteria can grow real fast and give the bad egg or Monday morning odor |
| Dermatitis | Too rich a fluid can wash the natural oils off the skin of operators leaving no protection against the elements |
| The Golden Rules Of Good Coolant Management | |
| Records | Keep good accurate records. You cannot make objective decision with no data |
| Clean Machines | Stop people from throwing trash into the sumps and devise an annual cleanout schedule |
| Maintain Concentration and pH | These two major criteria of coolants will eliminate 90% of your problems. Every machine loses fluid by evaporation or carryoff this changes the concentration almost daily. Add the right amount of water mixed fluid to keep the coolant at the right concentration. |
